The operation for his two missing children has been extended until January 6, 2026, after one daughter's body was previously recovered.
The KM Putri Sakinah sank in the Strait of Pulau Padar, carrying 11 people including six Spanish tourists, a tour guide, and four crew. Seven were rescued; four initially missing.
A 12-year-old girl, Martines Ortuno Maria Lia—daughter of Carreras—was found on December 29, 2025. On January 4, 2026, Carreras's body was discovered floating 2 km from the site at coordinates 8°36'32.58"S - 119°36'32.22"E.
