The death certificate of influencer and bodybuilder Gabriel Ganley, 22, lists sudden cardiac death and hypertrophic cardiomyopathy as causes. He was found dead on Saturday (23) in his apartment in Mooca, eastern São Paulo.
São Paulo Civil Police ruled out violence in the death. The police report registered the case as sudden death without apparent cause, and investigations continue at the 57th Police Station. The apartment was organized, with no signs of violence, and the body was found in the kitchen.
The death certificate indicates hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, a genetic condition that thickens the heart muscle. Cardiologist Raffael Fraga stated it is the main cause of sudden death in athletes and that anabolic steroid use can worsen the condition in susceptible people. Medications possibly anabolic steroids were seized at the scene.
Gabriel's mother, Clarisse Ganley, described the death as a fatality. Sponsor Integralmedica mourned the loss of an athlete who inspired young people. Influencer Renato Cariani criticized the glorification of steroids in bodybuilding. The body was cremated in a private ceremony on Monday (25).
