The Center for Investigation and Prevention of Aeronautical Accidents released its final report on Thursday (23) into the 2024 Voepass accident. The document concluded that the aircraft should not have taken off due to technical failures and weather conditions. Relatives of the victims announced a collective lawsuit for compensation.
The CENIPA report, presented in Brasília, identified 19 factors that contributed to the crash of flight 2283 in Vinhedo (SP) on August 9, 2024. Among them were the inoperability of the windshield wiper, failures in the de-icing system and a culture of normalizing deviations at Voepass. Investigator Lieutenant Colonel Paulo Mendes Fróes stated that the aircraft should not have been dispatched at that time.
The Association of Relatives of the Victims of Flight 2283 plans to file a collective lawsuit for moral damages against ANAC, ATR, Voepass and possible defendants by the Federal Police. Lawyer Leonardo Amarante said the report “laid bare that entire chain of omissions and actions” and that the expectation is for the conclusion of the PF inquiry in August.
ANAC said it will analyze the recommendations within 120 days. Luiz Soper, brother of a flight attendant victim of the accident, said the report was clarifying and that the families seek justice so that “those responsible are in fact held accountable”. The report does not assign blame, only preventive recommendations.
