中国本土の大学が清華大学、上海交通大学、浙江大学、北京大学と、世界トップ4を独占した。香港による貢献度は7.7％であり、これらを合わせると全体の過半数を超える。
米国は32％でこれに続き、スタンフォード大学、カーネギーメロン大学、マサチューセッツ工科大学が上位を占めた。各大学の論文数は清華大学の約半分にとどまった。
