중국 본토 대학들이 칭화대, 상하이 자오퉁대, 저장대, 베이징대 순으로 세계 상위 4개 자리를 휩쓸었다. 홍콩의 기여도는 7.7%였으며, 이를 합치면 전체의 절반을 넘어선다.
미국은 32%로 그 뒤를 이었으며, 스탠퍼드대, 카네기 멜런대, 매사추세츠 공과대학교(MIT)가 주도했다. 각 대학의 논문 발표 수는 칭화대의 절반 정도였다.
우크라이나 컴퓨터 과학자 드미트로 로푸샨스키의 분석은 AI 연구 분야에서 중국의 강력한 입지를 부각했다. 한 실리콘밸리 기업가는 소셜 미디어를 통해 홍콩, 싱가포르, 중국계 미국인 연구자들까지 포함하면 AI 연구는 "사실상 중국의 독무대"라고 언급했다.
