奈良公園の鹿の数が1687頭に達し、過去最高を更新したと保存団体が木曜日に発表した。出生率の上昇が要因とされる。
奈良鹿愛護会によると、鹿の数は前年から222頭増加した。調査は1953年以来毎年実施されており、今回も2日間にわたり約40人が目視で数えた。
内訳は雄411頭、雌990頭、子鹿286頭だった。過去1年間で198頭が死に、その多くが交通事故によるものだった。
山崎信之事務局長は「子鹿は母親について飛び出すことが多い」と述べ、公園内での減速を呼びかけた。来園者が鹿に野菜や残飯を与えることが出生率を押し上げているという。
