Russian diplomat highlights Egypt as longstanding strategic partner

Russian Chargé d’Affaires in Egypt Yuri Matveev described Egypt as a longstanding strategic partner of Moscow during celebrations for Russia’s National Day.

Matveev made the remarks on Thursday evening at a reception attended by diplomats, public figures, and representatives from various sectors. He pointed to major cooperation projects, including the construction of Egypt’s first nuclear power plant by the Russian state-owned company Rosatom.

Matveev said the volume of trade between the two countries is expanding year after year, while cooperation in the fields of science, education, culture, and sports is gaining increasing momentum. He stressed that the warmth and mutual understanding between the Russian and Egyptian peoples remain the cornerstone of bilateral relations.

The Russian official expressed pride in Russia’s historical achievements, citing the Soviet Union’s role in World War II and support for independence movements across Africa and Asia.
