AIIMS launches advanced therapeutic drug monitoring facility for epilepsy patients

The Neurobiochemistry Laboratory at AIIMS Delhi has launched a new Therapeutic Drug Monitoring facility to improve epilepsy care. The service aims to provide affordable testing for patients across India. Officials said it will help optimise treatment and reduce reliance on costly private labs.

The All India Institute of Medical Sciences in Delhi announced the launch on Sunday. The facility is housed in the Neurobiochemistry Laboratory at the Neurosciences Centre. It specialises in measuring medication concentrations in patients to support antiepileptic therapy.

The service enables accurate monitoring of drug levels, individualised dose adjustments, assessment of treatment response and early detection of toxicity. Hospital officials stated that the in-house tests will benefit economically underprivileged patients.

Previously many patients had to use expensive private laboratories or external referral centres for such specialised investigations. The new facility is expected to improve access to high-quality neurodiagnostic services nationwide.
