Arkansas mother sentenced to probation for baby abuse

A 21-year-old mother in Jonesboro, Arkansas, avoided jail time after pleading guilty to severely injuring her infant. Ryanne Foster received 36 months of probation for the second-degree battery conviction.

Ryanne Elizabeth Foster pleaded guilty this week to second-degree battery in connection with injuries inflicted on her 6-month-old child in July 2024. Doctors described the harm as similar to that from a very bad car accident, including brain bleeding, micro-bruising, and fractures to the arms and legs.

Foster was ordered to stay away from the child and must obtain a GED while on probation. Any violation could result in up to six years in prison, according to court records.

The father told police that Foster had referred to the baby as a potato or sack of flour and lacked an emotional connection. He left the home, citing fear that the infant could die if left with her. Foster claimed the injuries occurred when the baby fell from a couch during a seizure.
