Ghazipur district administration has imposed prohibitory orders under BNSS Section 163 across the district till April 30 amid law and order concerns over a teenage girl's death on April 15. Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav announced he will visit the family on April 29, calling it a repeat of the Hathras case. The victim's father opposed political leaders' visits.
The teenage girl went missing on the night of April 14 in Ghazipur district, and her body was found the next morning in the Ganga river about 3 km from her home. An FIR was registered based on the family's complaint, and the main accused has been arrested, said Varanasi Zone ADGP Piyush Mordia. Senior police and administrative officials have met the family, with the father seeking a speedy trial for strict punishment.
District Magistrate Anupam Shukla stated, "No political party, group or individual will be allowed to gather, enter the district to stage protests, or organise demonstrations related to the incident." The orders under BNSS Section 163 till April 30 were imposed due to fears of escalation by certain groups spreading misleading information. Police warned against rumours amid the ongoing investigation.
Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav criticised the Uttar Pradesh government, sharing a video of the victim's father and saying, "Changing statements does not change the truth." He questioned delays in the FIR, alleged alterations in statements, and harassment of the family. The father initially accused a village head of intimidation and stone-pelting on an SP delegation but later told reporters he did not want political visits for mileage and was satisfied with the police probe.
Yadav compared the incident to the 2020 Hathras case. Officials noted attempts by outsiders to create unrest in the village.
