Oaxaca train derailment update: Nine-year-old victim transferred to Mexico City hospital

Following the December 28 Interoceanic Train derailment in Nizanda, Oaxaca—which killed 13 and injured 96—a nine-year-old girl among the 36 still hospitalized has been transferred to a specialized facility in Mexico City, as reported by IMSS director Zoé Robledo.

Astrid Ximena Cruz, nine, was airlifted to the Pediatrics Hospital at the National Center Siglo XXI for advanced treatment of her injuries from the crash. Three other patients, including three-year-old Regina Torres Castro, underwent successful surgeries at Salina Cruz hospital.

Other hospitalized minors include five-year-old Liam Sebastián Ríos, 12-year-old Ian Osvaldo López, and 17-year-old Melany Yuretzi Zaragoza. All victims continue to receive federal care, building on President Sheinbaum's previously announced 30,000-peso aid to families and ongoing investigations, including interviews with the unharmed train conductor.
