KAI strengthens Manggarai station as main Jabodetabek transport hub

PT Kereta Api Indonesia (KAI) is bolstering the integration of Manggarai Station as the key transport node in the Jabodetabek region. This effort aligns with the growing density of urban mobility and the need for efficient access to daily activity centers. KAI's Vice President of Corporate Communication, Anne Purba, highlighted the station's vital role in supporting commuter movements.

Manggarai Station plays a crucial role in the daily lives of urban residents in Jabodetabek. As an intersection of various service lines, its integration ensures smooth movement across areas amid intensifying activities.

"The integration of Manggarai Station is designed to support public mobility that prioritizes ease of access and time efficiency. With inter-line connectivity, daily activities can be carried out more concisely," said Anne Purba in a written statement in Jakarta on Monday (January 26, 2026).

This statement is backed by data from the 2024 Population and Labor Mobility Statistics released by the Central Statistics Agency (BPS), which notes the dominance of productive-age residents in urban areas with high cross-regional daily trips, mainly for work and public services. "This pattern underscores the need for integrated and high-capacity mass transportation in metropolitan areas," added Anne.

BPS also indicates that urban population concentrations develop in areas with good public transport access, where accessibility is a key factor in housing preferences. "The optimal use of space around transport nodes is part of the lifestyle of communities seeking convenience without long travels," said Anne.

KAI's internal data shows consistently high KRL passenger volumes through Manggarai: 5,142,739 passengers in 2023, rising to 5,575,711 in 2024, and 5,456,309 in 2025. "This consistency reflects Manggarai's role as a meeting point for journeys from residential areas to economic activity centers in Jakarta and surroundings," explained Anne.

Additionally, connectivity to Soekarno-Hatta Airport via the Airport Commuter Line shows growth: from 1,970,531 passengers in 2023 to 2,242,536 in 2024, and 2,346,934 in 2025. "This trend indicates the increasing public need for connectivity between major transport nodes directly linked to economic and service centers," continued Anne.

Amid limited urban land, KAI continues to enhance service integration, operational reliability, and connectivity at key nodes. "Integrated public transportation is an important part in supporting the simple and connected daily lives of urban communities," concluded Anne.
