Kim Do-yeon heads to Cannes after Blue Dragon award win

Former I.O.I member Kim Do-yeon is set to make her mark at the Cannes Film Festival with her role in the film Dora, shortly after winning Best New Actress at the Blue Dragon Film Awards.

Kim Do-yeon won the Best New Actress trophy at the 46th Blue Dragon Film Awards last November for her debut in Idiot Girls and School Ghost: School Anniversary. In her acceptance speech she said the award would be a source of strength and expressed her desire to become an actor who thinks and reflects deeply without hesitation.

Six months later she is attending the 79th Cannes Film Festival where Dora has been invited to the Directors’ Fortnight section. The film which opens on May 12 marks the first Korean entry in that section since 2023. It tells the story of a young woman named Dora who experiences love for the first time while staying at a seaside villa with her family.

Director July Jung’s third feature also stars Japanese actor Sakura Ando. Kim’s performance is expected to show a more emotionally layered side beyond her earlier youthful image. She previously gained fame through Produce 101 and groups I.O.I and Weki Meki before studying acting in London.
