A 68-year-old man was detained in La Plata for allegedly murdering his 45-year-old neighbor during Christmas celebrations, following a dispute over fireworks in the Aeropuerto neighborhood. The aggressor fired from his apartment, and one projectile fatally struck the victim. Neighbors protested by setting fire to the suspect's car, prompting a police deployment.
The incident took place on Christmas night in La Plata's Aeropuerto neighborhood, at the intersection of streets 609 and 4. According to police sources, Juan Carlos Magen, 68, complained because the children of Daniel Néstor Rubén Ramírez, 45, had been setting off fireworks for nearly the entire day. In response, Magen fired several shots from the window of his apartment in the neighborhood's monoblocks.
One projectile struck Ramírez, who was on the building's staircase landing, inflicting gunshot wounds to his neck and left shoulder. The victim died from his injuries. In the aftermath, outraged neighbors set fire to a Peugeot 504 owned by Magen in protest, necessitating a large deployment of Command Patrol officers and the Tactical Operations Group (GTO) to contain the disturbances and secure the crime scene.
During a raid on the suspect's home, police seized three weapons: a reinforced special shotgun in 20 gauge with one round in the chamber, a Bersa Thunder .40 caliber pistol, and a compressed air rifle, along with a pistol holster and various munitions. Magen was detained and charged with homicide, with the case handled by La Plata's Instructional Prosecutor's Unit (UFI). The victim's body was taken to the judicial morgue for autopsy as the investigation continues to precisely reconstruct the attack sequence.
