Mexico imposes traveler restrictions over ebola outbreak

Aeroméxico and Viva Aerobus announced restrictions for passengers who have been in Congo, Uganda or South Sudan in the past three weeks. The measure responds to an Ebola outbreak and will last 60 days.

Mexican airlines apply the restriction from May 28 for people without a Mexican passport. Mexican travelers are exempt from the measure.

The Ministry of Health activated a preventive protocol due to the Bundibugyo variant outbreak. Secretary David Kershenobich said the risk in Mexico is very low but recommended rescheduling trips.

Governments of Mexico, the United States and Canada issued a joint statement to coordinate health actions ahead of the 2026 World Cup. Filters will be installed at airports such as AICM.

Kershenobich explained that suspected passengers will be registered and contacted every 24 hours during the virus incubation period.
