Isaac Smith was sentenced to life in prison without parole for the 2021 murder of Karli Short and her unborn child in McKeesport, Pennsylvania. The 30-year-old was convicted of two counts of first-degree murder.
Smith killed Short on September 13, 2021, after luring her outside her home on Furnace Alley. She was shot in the head. Short had been five months pregnant and had recently texted Smith about a planned gender-reveal party. Prosecutors said Smith acted to hide the relationship from his new girlfriend. He turned himself in hours later and gave a three-hour interview to police. DNA later showed he was not the father of the child. At sentencing, Short's father Brandon Short told the court that the unborn child was not killed by her father but by a murdering coward. Her aunt described the loss of her niece's joy at becoming a mother.
