스위스 안락사 단체 대표 베른하르트 수터(58)가 7월 21일 아들과 함께 후지노미야 루트를 통해 후지산을 등반하던 중 쓰러져 사망했다. 이번 사고는 2026년 등반 시즌의 두 번째 사망 사고다.
사고는 오후 7합목 인근 산장에서 발생했다. 구조대는 오후 4시 직전 현장에 도착해 제세동기를 사용하여 일시적으로 호흡을 회복시켰으나, 병원 이송 후 의료진으로부터 사망 판정을 받았다.
4일 전인 7월 17일에는 나라현 출신의 65세 남성이 같은 등산로에서 넘어져 머리를 부딪힌 뒤 사망한 바 있다. 2025년 후지산 등반 시즌에는 사망 사고가 없었다.
시즈오카현 경찰은 등산객들에게 자신의 건강 상태가 불안하거나 기상 상황이 악화될 경우 즉시 하산하거나 도움을 요청할 것을 당부했다.
