Tesla reports remote operator crash into tree stump in Houston

Tesla has filed new reports with federal regulators detailing four robotaxi crashes, including one in Houston where a remote operator drove a vehicle into a tree stump.

The incidents occurred between May and June in Texas cities. In the Houston case from May, a Model Y became stuck on a dead-end road, and the remote operator caused the low-speed collision while attempting to recover the vehicle.

Tesla coded this as the first remote operation crash in its filings to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. Two prior remote operator crashes from July 2025 and January 2026 also ended with collisions after humans took control.

Other reports described crashes in Austin and Dallas. One involved another vehicle reversing into a Tesla, while another saw the vehicle strike a metal chain at low speed.

Tesla has three active robotaxis in Houston and seven in Dallas. The filings follow the company's decision earlier this year to stop redacting crash narratives.

Tesla's autonomous Robotaxi fleet in Austin has completed four months without any collisions caused by its Full Self-Driving software. Data from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration shows the streak covers February through spring. Three minor incidents occurred in that period, but all resulted from other drivers hitting stationary vehicles.
