Seoul-based menswear brand XLIM has reworked HOKA's Mafate Speed 2 trail runner with a suede and leather upper for a 1990s-inspired lo-fi aesthetic. Available in deep indigo blue (XLIM site exclusive) and dark purple/black (wider release April 18, 2026), it follows prior redesigns by Moncler and END.
XLIM, known for technical fabrics, debuts its first HOKA collaboration by swapping the Mafate Speed 2's breathable mesh and no-sew overlays for hairy suede and leather, prioritizing texture and retro vibe over pure trail performance. Originally released a decade ago, the model has evolved into a fashion favorite, building on sleek updates like Moncler's 2021 white version and END.'s neutral remix.
High-contrast colorways include a stealthy all-black/dark purple-black variant and vibrant Yves Klein/cobalt/deep indigo blue options. Subtle XLIM logo branding appears on the lateral toe. HOKA's tech remains: Vibram Mega-Grip outsoles with 5mm treads, Active Foot frame for support, and Meta-Rocker for gait efficiency, suiting trail-to-street use.
Designer Dohee Kim emphasized practical innovation in Hypebeast Magazine: “Rather than simply following external trends... we develop our own fabrics for function and style.” The shoes drop April 18 at XLIM's stores and website.
