In the ongoing Syekh Ahmad Al Misry santri harassment case, key reporter Habib Mahdi Alatas has pointed out irregularities in the preacher's departure to Egypt, including a last-minute power of attorney and doubts over his mother's surgery excuse. He also highlighted ongoing victim intimidation.
In the continuing Syekh Ahmad Al Misry santri sexual harassment case—where the preacher is accused of targeting male students, including minors, through methods like 'physical checks'—Habib Mahdi Alatas, the primary reporter and victims' coordinator, has raised questions about Syekh Ahmad's (SAM) trip to Egypt.
Mahdi noted that SAM issued a power of attorney to Pablo Benua on April 15, just before departing, suggesting awareness of the legal issues. 'He knew because... he just made the power of attorney, meaning he knew there was an ongoing case,' Mahdi stated in an Instagram video.
He also disputed SAM's claim of traveling for his mother's surgery on April 17, citing reliable information that her last spine surgery was 5-6 years ago. Mahdi emphasized victim intimidation, including a Depok santri's mother being terrorized at midnight and a Cairo student's parents threatened by SAM associates.
Alongside Ustaz Abi Makki, Mahdi visited Komisi III DPR RI to discuss the case. Despite facing accusations of slander, the Jakarta religious figure, who leads Majelis Ta'lim Al Khairat in Condet, East Jakarta, continues his advocacy, funded personally.
