Renfe files fraud complaint against Vito Quiles over AVE journeys

Renfe has filed a complaint against activist Vito Quiles for alleged fraud after he purchased tickets only for part of his AVE journeys and used unauthorized services.

The rail company has opened judicial proceedings against Quiles for repeatedly traveling on cheaper tickets, such as the August 11 2025 incident from Alicante to Albacete for 6.15 euros while continuing to Madrid without paying the full fare until confronted.

A judge in Alicante has charged Quiles with fraud and requested video footage from Renfe and Adif of his journeys, while summoning him to testify. Renfe estimates economic damage of no less than 850 euros from this pattern of behavior dating back to at least 2024, which also involved using unpaid comfort seats.

Quiles has been summoned twice by the court in this case, though he failed to appear on the second occasion despite proper notification. The complaint also cites reputational harm caused by the activist publicizing his actions on social media.
