Civil society organizations' role must intensify to save national development, Adem Farah says

Deputy Prime Minister Adem Farah called on civil society organizations to actively participate and engage in national issues to bolster development. This was stated during the 5th annual meeting in Addis Ababa. The number of such organizations has tripled in recent years.

In Addis Ababa on Katit 26, 2018 (EC), the 5th annual meeting of civil society organizations took place, where Ato Adem Farah, Deputy Prime Minister and head of the Democracy System Building Coordination Center as well as President of the Prosperity Party, addressed the gathering. The event was guided by the theme “Self-reliance for lasting peace and our development.”

Adem Farah highlighted the government's recognition of the significant role civil society organizations play in national development and prosperity. Over the years of reforms, a framework for active collaboration between the government and these organizations has been established, he noted. This includes legal amendments across regions, aimed at rendering civil society organizations modern, effective, and agile.

For instance, the number of civil society organizations has tripled in recent years, reaching 8,410 currently. Adem Farah urged these groups to actively participate in national consultations, conflict resolution, the 7th general election, and the Bahir Dar question, while sharing their views.

Finally, in an ongoing marathon registration drive until Katit 28, 2018, over 120 civil society organizations have begun registering their operations at the Exhibition Center.
