Congress leaves it to high command to pick Kerala CM

AICC observers met Kerala Congress MLAs-elect and passed a resolution authorising the party high command to decide the chief minister. The meeting followed the UDF alliance's victory in the assembly elections.

Two AICC observers, Ajay Maken and Mukul Wasnik, held consultations with the 63 Congress MLAs-elect at Indira Bhawan in Thiruvananthapuram on Thursday. The group adopted a one-line resolution that leaves the final choice for chief minister to the high command.

Maken told reporters after the meeting that the observers had spoken individually with the MLAs and would submit their report in Delhi. KPCC president Sunny Joseph confirmed the high command would take the final decision.

Leading contenders named in the discussions are VD Satheesan, Ramesh Chennithala and KC Venugopal. The observers also met key allies including the IUML, which has indicated support for Satheesan.
