Congress leaders summoned to Delhi amid Kerala CM suspense

The Congress high command has called former Kerala party chiefs and senior leaders to New Delhi on Tuesday for talks on the chief ministerial post, as uncertainty lingers a week after the UDF's election victory.

The move comes after the Congress-led United Democratic Front won 102 of 140 seats in the April 9 Kerala assembly polls, with results declared on May 4. Party president Mallikarjun Kharge hosted a meeting on Saturday at his residence, attended by Rahul Gandhi, Deepa Dasmunsi, Sunny Joseph, and other state leaders.

Former KPCC presidents K Muraleedharan and VM Sudheeran confirmed they would attend the Delhi discussions. Muraleedharan said a decision on the chief minister is expected within 48 hours, while noting the delay has caused unease among workers. Sudheeran added he would share his views on the state's political situation.

Three contenders, VD Satheesan, Ramesh Chennithala, and KC Venugopal, have been lobbying for the post. The Indian Union Muslim League, with 22 seats, has voiced displeasure, warning of repercussions if the delay continues. All senior leaders have stated they will accept the high command's final choice.
