Kerala fronts hold vibrant campaign finales in Ernakulam

Major political fronts in Kerala staged high-energy campaign finales across Ernakulam district ahead of the April 9 assembly elections. Thousands of workers and supporters turned out for vibrant 'Kalasakkottu' events in all 14 constituencies on Tuesday. A Congress worker collapsed and died during one such rally in North Paravur.

Ernakulam district saw a dramatic end to public campaigning for the April 9 Kerala assembly elections on Tuesday, with LDF, UDF and NDA fronts organising vibrant 'Kalasakkottu' finales across its 14 constituencies. Hundreds of party workers filled venues with colour, music and shows of strength.

In Kalamassery, LDF candidate P. Rajeeve led a rally at South Kalamassery featuring rapper Vedan, CPI(M) flags on drones and life-size cutouts. CPI(M) leaders M. Swaraj and S. Sathish joined him amid parodies targeting UDF. UDF's V.E. Abdul Gafoor and NDA's M.P. Binu also drew large crowds with flags and cutouts.

Leader of the Opposition V.D. Satheesan rallied supporters in North Paravur, posing for selfies. In Thrikkakara, UDF's Uma Thomas was backed by Kochi Mayor V.K. Minimol, while LDF's Pushpadas was shouldered by jubilant crowds. Similar high-energy events marked finales in Thripunithura, Ernakulam and Muvattupuzha.

Tragedy struck at North Paravur when Congress worker Ali Valyathuparambu, 68, from Thathappilly collapsed during the 'Kalasakkottu' and was declared dead on arrival at the taluk hospital.
