Education observers have criticized the alleged corruption in school uniform procurement involving non-active Langkat Regent Syah Afandin. They say the practice harms parents and education budgets.
Education observer Satriawan Salim condemned the alleged gratification in the elementary school uniform project. He said the practice harms parents amid still-high education costs.
"We as education and teacher organizations strongly condemn the occurrence of clothing corruption," Satriawan told reporters on July 6, 2026.
JPPI National Coordinator Ubaid Matraji assessed that education budgets remain vulnerable to irregularities. He called on the KPK to investigate the case thoroughly and the Ministry of Home Affairs to audit governance in Langkat Regency.
Ubaid also highlighted alleged trading of school principal positions in the case.
