Egypt introduces new customs facilitation measures

Egypt’s Finance Minister announced a package of customs facilitation measures on Tuesday aimed at simplifying procedures for importers and exporters.

Egypt’s Minister of Finance Ahmed Kouchouk said the measures will allow customs procedures to start immediately upon the arrival of goods at ports without requiring a delivery order alongside the customs declaration. A bill of lading issued in the importer’s name will now be sufficient for submitting a customs declaration, with other documents to be completed before final clearance. The changes amend provisions of the Executive Regulations of the Customs Law. Ahmed Amawi, head of the Egyptian Customs Authority, stated that the decision followed consultations with the Ministry of Transport, shipping chambers, and other stakeholders. The reforms are part of ongoing efforts to modernise the customs system and reduce clearance times.
