Extreme caution heat index logged in several areas

PAGASA reported several areas reached borderline “extreme caution” heat index after a cold snap due to weakening northeast monsoon. The index ranges from 33 to 41 degrees Celsius, potentially causing heat cramps and exhaustion. Cotabato City and Zamboanga City neared 40 degrees Celsius.

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) stated yesterday that several areas reached borderline “extreme caution” heat index temperatures following a cold snap and the continued weakening of the northeast monsoon. This index, ranging from 33 to 41 degrees Celsius, may cause heat cramps and heat exhaustion, with continuous physical activity potentially leading to heat stroke. Cotabato City and Zamboanga City neared a peak of 40 degrees Celsius heat index. Dagupan City in Pangasinan and Borongan in Eastern Samar could reach 39 degrees Celsius, while Catarman in Northern Samar, Dipolog in Zamboanga del Norte, and Iloilo City are forecast at 38 degrees Celsius. Weather outlooks include partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated light rains in Batanes, Ilocos Norte, Apayao, and Cagayan due to the northeast monsoon. Metro Manila, the rest of Luzon, and the Visayas will see partly cloudy to cloudy conditions with isolated rainshowers or thunderstorms from easterlies. Mindanao expects partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rainshowers or localized thunderstorms. PAGASA has not detected any low-pressure area that could develop into a tropical cyclone.
