Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu met Punjab Governor Gulab Chand Kataria on June 26, 2026, to press for the state's 7.19 percent share in Chandigarh and other pending matters under the Punjab Reorganisation Act, 1966.
Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu said Chandigarh was built with resources from undivided Punjab. He noted that Punjab and Haryana have gained from its assets for decades while Himachal has received none.
The Chief Minister also raised the issue of long-pending Bhakra Beas Management Board dues. He recalled that the Supreme Court had upheld Himachal's 7.19 percent entitlement, including 13,066 million units of power, yet the state has waited more than ten years for settlement.
On the Shanan Hydroelectric Project in Mandi district, Sukhu stated that the 99-year lease expired on March 2, 2024. He argued that the project lies outside territories transferred under the 1966 Act, so Punjab has no continuing legal claim.
