Hong Kong driver arrested after fatal taxi collision

Hong Kong police have arrested a 35-year-old driver after his medium goods vehicle collided head-on with a taxi, killing the taxi driver and an elderly passenger. The crash occurred on Fan Kam Road near Fanling Golf Course. Both victims were pronounced dead at North District Hospital.

Hong Kong police announced on Thursday that a 35-year-old man surnamed He, driver of a medium goods vehicle, was arrested after a head-on collision with a taxi on Fan Kam Road, resulting in the deaths of the taxi driver and a passenger. The incident took place at 11:25am, with the taxi heading towards Sheung Shui and the goods vehicle bound for Yuen Long.

The taxi passenger, an 84-year-old woman surnamed Man, was trapped inside the vehicle and later rescued. The taxi driver, a 56-year-old man surnamed Lam, and the passenger both suffered multiple injuries and were rushed to North District Hospital in an unconscious state. They were pronounced dead in the afternoon.

He was arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving causing death and is being detained for questioning. The case is being handled by the special investigation team under the traffic division of the New Territories North regional headquarters. The collision occurred near Fanling Golf Course, with no further details on the cause provided by police.
