Malolos Congress documents fetch over P5 million at auction

Six documents from the Malolos Congress sold for over P5 million at a Leon Gallery auction last weekend.

The most sought item was the long-lost copy of the Malolos Congress Rulebook or Reglamento del Congreso de la República Filipina. It was signed by Pedro Paterno, Pablo Tecson and Pablo Ocampo and consists of 38 pages.

Sen. Juan Miguel Zubiri won the bidding for the rulebook at over P700,000. He is a direct descendant of Pablo Ocampo and announced he would donate it to the National Library of the Philippines.

Other items sold included a copy of the Malolos Constitution for over P2 million and Jose Rizal items such as his flute for P2.6 million. Zubiri said he would pursue a translation of the rulebook into Filipino.
