A 28-year-old worker died on Sunday after being struck by a falling stage structure during setup for Shakira's free concert on Copacabana beach in Rio de Janeiro. The victim, Gabriel Jesus Firmino, was rushed to Hospital Municipal Miguel Couto in Gávea but succumbed to injuries. Authorities are investigating the incident.
On April 26, 2026, during the assembly of the stage for Shakira's show scheduled for May 2 on Avenida Atlântica near Posto 3 in Copacabana, a structure collapsed and struck Gabriel Jesus Firmino, a 28-year-old safety technician.
The Rio Fire Department stated that Firmino suffered crushing injuries to his lower limbs in an elevation system and was removed by colleagues before rescuers arrived. He was taken to Hospital Municipal Miguel Couto in Gávea but did not survive. The Military Police's 19th BPM (Copacabana) assisted at the scene.
The case was forwarded to the 12th Police Station (Copacabana) for investigation, with forensics mobilized. Firmino worked for MG Coutinho Serviços Cenográficos, according to g1 portal.
Shakira's free megashow is part of the "Todo Mundo no Rio" project, following performances by Madonna in 2024 and Lady Gaga in 2025 on Copacabana beach.
