Marcos welcomes ambassadors from Peru and Malta

President Marcos welcomed the new ambassadors from Peru and the Order of Malta on Wednesday, expressing hopes for stronger bilateral ties.

President Marcos received the credentials of Peru Ambassador Carmen del Rocio Azurin Araujo and Malta Ambassador Maria Lourdes Bernadette Banson during separate ceremonies at the Palace. Marcos noted that the reopening of Peru’s embassy in Manila in 2025 marks a significant development. “I am certain that with the reopening of the embassy, we will have many opportunities together to deepen, strengthen, and widen the relationship between Peru and the Philippines,” he said. The Philippines and Peru established diplomatic relations on Nov. 30, 1974. Araujo conveyed greetings from Peruvian President Jose Maria Balcazar. For the Order of Malta, Marcos expressed confidence in further cooperation on humanitarian initiatives, citing Banson’s background in the Philippines.
