PHIVOLCS reports tremors in Masbate and Davao Occidental

The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology reported tremors in Masbate and Davao Occidental on Wednesday. A 4.2-magnitude earthquake struck Davao Occidental early that day.

PHIVOLCS recorded a 4.2-magnitude quake at 3:45 a.m. on July 15 with its epicenter 24 kilometers northwest of Sarangani Island. This follows a 4.6-magnitude aftershock early on July 14 located 40 kilometers west of Balut Island. The agency listed instrumental intensities from the earlier event in areas including Glan and General Santos.

A separate 4.7-magnitude earthquake hit Masbate on Tuesday afternoon. Its epicenter was 30 kilometers southwest of Claveria at a depth of 4 kilometers. Intensities were felt in parts of Quezon and Camarines Sur.

PHIVOLCS stated that both events were aftershocks linked to prior larger quakes offshore. The agency also canceled sea-level disturbance advisories after monitoring showed no unusual changes.
