Heavy rains are expected over Zambales and Bataan in the next few hours due to the enhanced southwest monsoon, or habagat. The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration issued a yellow rainfall alert at 8 a.m. on Sunday. Typhoon Noul, formerly Kiyapo, is moving away from the Philippine Area of Responsibility and no longer affecting the country.
The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration warned of 7.5 to 15 millimeters of rain per hour, which may continue for another two hours. Flooding and landslides in mountainous areas are possible under the alert.
Specific areas under yellow alert in Zambales include San Antonio, Subic, Castillejos, San Marcelino, San Narciso, San Felipe, and Olongapo. In Bataan, the alert covers Morong, Hermosa, Dinalupihan, Bagac, Balanga, Abucay, Samal, Orani, and Pilar.
PAGASA said the southwest monsoon will continue to bring rains over parts of Luzon and Visayas on Sunday. Pangasinan and Zambales are expected to experience occasional rains, with possible flash floods or landslides from moderate to heavy rainfall. Metro Manila, the rest of Luzon, as well as Aklan and Antique will have cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms.
Noul was estimated at 745 kilometers west-northwest of Itbayat, Batanes, with maximum sustained winds of 140 kilometers per hour and gusts of up to 195 kilometers per hour as it moved northwestward at 20 kilometers per hour.
