Roman Anthony transfers rehab to Florida

Boston Red Sox outfielder Roman Anthony has moved his recovery from a partially torn tendon in his right ring finger to Fort Myers, Florida. Manager Chad Tracy said the change aims to help Anthony focus without daily distractions at Fenway Park.

Anthony has been on the injured list since May 7 after injuring the finger on a check-swing foul ball. Imaging on June 16 showed proper healing, though he continues to experience discomfort when swinging.

Tracy noted that the Florida location will allow Anthony to concentrate solely on recovery. “The other stuff being just the day-to-day of being at Fenway, he's going to get asked questions about it constantly,” Tracy said.

The club added that Anthony is scheduled to see hand specialist Dr. Gary Lourie in Atlanta this week. He was transferred to the 60-day injured list on June 28 and still has no set return date.

“We want him in the lineup,” Tracy said. “I'm going to keep in touch with him frequently and see how he's doing with the hope that we get him back.”
