Samsung Electronics and KT have proven the stable operation of 6G artificial intelligence radio access network (AI-RAN) technology on a commercial network, confirming its viability in real-world conditions. A field test involving around 18,000 users in parts of Seongnam, Gyeonggi Province, demonstrated the technology's ability to automatically apply optimal configurations for each user and avoid connectivity issues.
Samsung Research and KT's Future Network Laboratory conducted a field test in select areas of Seongnam, Gyeonggi Province, involving approximately 18,000 users across varying environmental conditions. This marked the first successful demonstration of AI-RAN technology on a live commercial network, building on simulation-based verification completed in June.
The technology automatically applies optimal configurations for individual users and uses AI to help avoid connectivity problems. The companies emphasized that AI-RAN optimization will be essential as the industry gears up for the 6G era, with expected surges in data usage.
"This is a major milestone that shows how AI can improve user experience on real-world commercial networks," said Jeong Jin-guk, executive vice president of Samsung Research at Samsung Electronics. "Through close collaboration with KT, we will continue shaping and validating the next generation of AI-driven communication technologies."
This achievement underscores AI's growing role in advancing wireless networks toward 6G deployment.
