San Antonio Mayor Gina Ortiz Jones has urged the cancellation of Ye's scheduled July 4 concert at the Alamodome. She cited the rapper's history of antisemitic comments and hate speech. The show remains listed as proceeding with tickets on sale.
Gina Ortiz Jones, the mayor of San Antonio, posted on X on June 20 that she supports canceling the event. “Military City USA should not host someone with a record of hate speech and antisemitic comments in a city-funded facility like our Alamodome—not ever, and certainly not on July 4th, our Nation’s 250th birthday,” she wrote.
The rapper, formerly known as Kanye West, announced the Fourth of July date last week. Tickets range from $127.50 to $1,461.25. The Alamodome can hold more than 70,000 people.
Ortiz Jones added that “Standing up to antisemitism is exactly what it takes to achieve a more perfect Union.” Florida Senator Rick Scott made a similar call last month regarding Ye's planned Tampa shows on June 26 and 28.
Ye has performed in several cities this year despite prior cancellations in Europe tied to his comments. The San Antonio concert is part of a summer schedule that also includes dates in Albania, Spain, Portugal and Chicago.
