Seoul partners with CU on low-sugar meals

The Seoul city government has partnered with CU to launch five low-sugar, high-protein packaged meals. The products went on sale at CU stores this week.

The Seoul city government and CU introduced the “Seoul My Soul Healthy Convenience Foods” lineup. The five items include a bento-style boxed lunch, rolled gimbap, two triangle rice balls, and a chicken sandwich.

Kim Hyoung-rae, director-general of the city's public communications bureau, said the collaboration was designed to help residents easily and affordably embrace healthy living. The recipes use chickpea rice, chicken breast, and low-fat mayonnaise to cut sugar and fat while raising protein.

The boxed lunch, rolled gimbap, tuna rice ball, and sandwich reached shelves on Tuesday, with the bulgogi rice ball added on Wednesday. All items are sold at CU stores across the greater Seoul area, and customers can check stock or reserve items via the Pocket CU app.

The launch continues earlier municipal food projects. Seoul Ramen and Seoul Jjajang, released in February 2024, have sold more than 1.66 million packages in 19 countries.
