Sony announces indie games at State of Play stream

Sony revealed several upcoming indie titles for PS5 during its State of Play stream on Thursday. Highlights include a Castlevania game from Dead Cells developers and a co-op adventure called Big Walk. The event also touched on other projects like a Silent Hill game set in Scotland.

Sony's State of Play stream featured announcements for indie games heading to PS5 and other platforms. Motion Twin and Evil Empire, known for Dead Cells and its expansions, are developing a proper Castlevania title. Konami is supporting external studios with its franchises, including a Silent Hill game set in Scotland.

Big Walk, from Untitled Goose Game developer House House and publisher Panic, is a co-op multiplayer game where players go on adventures with friends. It involves solving puzzles and challenges using voice, text chat, and gestures. Players can relax by watching sunsets or engage in light mischief, like dropping binoculars into the ocean. Big Walk launches later this year on PS5 as a Monthly Game for PS Plus members, alongside Steam and Epic Games Store, with cross-platform play between PS5 and PC.

A prequel DLC for Neva, one of the favorite games of recent years, arrives next week. Remedy Entertainment, considered an indie studio, showcased Control Resonant, featuring perspective-shifting gameplay in its trailer.

The stream aligns with recent indie releases like Relooted, an anti-colonialist parkour game by Nyamakop where players reclaim African artifacts from Western museums. It is available now on Steam, Epic Games Store, and Xbox Series X/S for $15, with a 10 percent discount on Steam until February 24, and on Game Pass. Reanimal, from Tarsier Studios of Little Nightmares fame, involves siblings escaping a dangerous island; it is out now on Steam, PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and Nintendo Switch 2 for $40, supporting single-player, couch co-op, and online co-op.

These announcements underscore Sony's support for indie developers amid broader industry trends.
