PlayStation CEO says live-service games remain key to future

Sony still views live-service games as central to its strategy despite recent setbacks. PlayStation CEO Hideaki Nishino emphasized continued investment in the genre during a recent interview.

Sony had aimed to release nearly a dozen live-service titles by March 2026 but later halved that target. Among those that launched, only Helldivers 2 achieved major success while projects such as Concord failed to gain traction.

Nishino told Famitsu that live-service games attract users globally. He stated the company wants to revitalize the market with both first-party and third-party content and plans to keep experimenting in the relatively new genre.

The executive also highlighted an upcoming example, Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls published by Sony. He noted that live-service titles will target both PS5 and PC platforms to reach more players.
