Tigray stakeholders begin national dialogue consultations in Addis Ababa

Ethiopia's National Dialogue Commission has begun the first round of agenda-setting meetings and participant selection with Tigray stakeholders in Addis Ababa after overcoming several challenges. Security issues in the region had previously prevented such consultations there.

Addis Ababa, April 1, 2026 - Ethiopia's National Dialogue Commission has launched its first round of agenda-setting meetings and national dialogue participant selection with stakeholders from Tigray region's various woredas and zones in Addis Ababa.

Consultations in the region had stalled due to armed groups hindering free participation and refusing official cooperation. Weyzero Keriya Ibrahim described the decision to hold them in Addis Ababa as 'correct and appropriate.'

Running from today until April 3, the process involves Tigray natives and Addis Ababa residents. Participants are discussing political, social, and economic grievances, accountability for past atrocities, and future national ownership.

Commission chief Mesfin Araya previously stated there are no unsolvable issues in Ethiopia. Keriya emphasized that problems must be resolved peacefully, not through force.
