UAE deports Amritpal Singh Mehron, accused in influencer murder case, to India

The UAE government deported self-styled Sikh leader Amritpal Singh Mehron to India on Thursday, a key accused in the murder of Instagram influencer Kanchan Kumari in Bathinda. Mehron had fled to Dubai after the killing and continued issuing threats on social media. Police said Kanchan was strangled for posting content deemed immoral.

Self-styled Sikh leader Amritpal Singh Mehron, head of the 'Qaum De Rakhe' group, fled to Dubai from Amritsar airport hours after the June 2025 murder of Instagram influencer Kanchan Kumari alias Kamal Kaur 'Bhabhi' in Bathinda. He claimed responsibility in a video, calling it enforcement of moral standards. Two associates, Jaspreet Singh and Nimrat Jit Singh, were arrested for the killing.

Sharjah Police detained Mehron in January 2026 during a visa check, leading to deportation proceedings. A Bathinda court declared him a proclaimed offender in February 2026 after he failed to appear for the probe. Mehron, from a modest background, completed Class 12 in Moga and holds a diesel mechanics diploma; he worked as a bike mechanic.

The case has sparked debate in Punjab over moral policing, vigilante violence, law and order, and the safety of women influencers. Mehron and his group had previously threatened other creators.
