Workers plan protest over MindsEye fan event

Employees at Build a Rocket Boy will picket the studio's Edinburgh offices on Saturday to protest a fan event for MindsEye. The demonstration follows multiple rounds of layoffs at the developer.

Workers from Build a Rocket Boy, the studio behind MindsEye, are scheduled to gather at 10am local time outside the premises this Saturday, 11th July. They will be joined by members of the Independent Workers' Union of Great Britain and other unions.

The protest targets the studio's decision to host an all-expenses-paid event for fans, who will be flown in to play an updated build of the game. This comes amid several layoffs at the company.

Over 100 employees were notified of redundancies shortly after the game's release. Another round occurred in March, followed by 170 more job cuts in May.

Studio founder Leslie Benzies and co-CEO Mark Gerhard have previously alleged organised espionage and corporate sabotage during development. The IWGB initiated legal action in April over the use of surveillance software on employee devices.

The cuts follow two prior rounds, the March 2026 closure of its French studio, and come amid poor reception to a recent Blacklist update.
