Xbox leader Asha Sharma to advise Federal Reserve task force

Xbox CEO Asha Sharma will join a US Federal Reserve task force focused on employment and productivity. The appointment comes days after she led a restructuring that eliminated 3200 jobs at the company.

Federal Reserve Chairman Kevin Warsh named Sharma as an external adviser in a press release. Her role includes assessing the impact of AI on the workforce and providing feedback to the Federal Open Market Committee.

Sharma previously led Microsoft’s CoreAI division and held a vice president position at Meta. She is the only acting executive among the named advisers, which also include venture capitalist Marc Andreessen and Stanford professor Charles I. Jones.

Warsh stated that each task force will examine whether the Federal Reserve's methods and tools can be improved. Progress updates will be posted periodically on the Fed's website.
