Avocado committee changes name to Paltas de Chile

The Avocado Committee announced its rebranding to Paltas de Chile at a seminar in Santiago, ushering in a new phase after over two decades. President Francisco Contardo Sfeir said the change mirrors the sector's growth and sustainability focus.

The announcement came at the seminar “Paltas de Chile: origen sostenible, alcance global” held Thursday in Santiago. Francisco Contardo Sfeir, the guild's president, said the new identity better projects the industry's purpose, now present in nearly 40 international markets.

“The shift to ‘Paltas de Chile’ reflects what we are today: a consolidated industry aware of its surroundings and demanding of itself,” Contardo Sfeir stated. Production hit 240,000 tons in the 2024-2025 season, the highest in 15 years, driven by better management and technology.

On sustainability, 95% of companies adhere to UN Sustainable Development Goals, and 100% of fields track water use. This has made Chile a global benchmark. The sector generates over US$700 million yearly, with local consumption near 9 kg per capita.

Contardo Sfeir added: “This is a natural step [...] with an identity that better reflects what we are and what we want to keep building.” The new phase aims to boost sustainable, competitive production for international markets.
