Fernando Alonso ties F1 future to car enjoyment not performance

Fernando Alonso has stated that his decision on whether to continue in Formula 1 beyond this season will depend on the enjoyability of the current hybrid cars rather than Aston Martin’s results.

The two-time world champion, whose contract with the Silverstone-based team expires at the end of 2026, made the comments while speaking at Spa.

Alonso said his choice for next year is unrelated to the team’s B-spec car upgrade due at the Hungarian Grand Prix this weekend.

“I think my decision for next year is more about the rules,” he said. “Driving these cars in places like Spa today or Silverstone in the last race is not what I'm dreaming of for my future.”

He expressed disappointment over Aston Martin’s start to the new regulations but hoped the upgrades would help the squad improve.
