Jan. 6 rioter sentenced to prison for Virginia home burglary

A man previously convicted for his actions during the Jan. 6, 2021, Capitol riot has been sentenced to seven years in prison after breaking into a Henrico County home. Zachary Alam, 34, was found guilty last fall of breaking and entering an occupied dwelling and grand larceny.

Alam entered the residence through a back door on May 8, 2025, around 11 p.m. He spent 10 to 15 minutes inside searching rooms and taking personal items before the family confronted him. He offered excuses for his presence and left, after which police tracked and arrested him nearby.
