Kenyans advised to avoid travel to Ebola-hit nations

Kenya's health authorities have urged citizens to postpone non-essential trips to Uganda and the Democratic Republic of Congo due to rising Ebola cases in those countries.

Health Principal Secretary Mary Muthoni issued the advisory on May 30 while inspecting Jomo Kenyatta International Airport. She stated that Kenyans should avoid unnecessary travel to affected areas until the situation improves.

The Democratic Republic of Congo has recorded between 900 and 1,077 suspected Ebola cases, including 121 to 134 confirmed infections. Uganda has confirmed nine cases, many linked to travel from the DRC.

Health Cabinet Secretary Adan Duale said Kenya has activated its national Incident Management System and increased surveillance at entry points. No Ebola cases have been detected in Kenya after 18 tests returned negative results.
