During the morning press conference on May 25, Health Secretary David Kershenobich detailed that Mexico will not restrict entry for people from the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Uganda and South Sudan.

Instead, health filters and itinerary checks will be applied, with a recommendation of 21 days of isolation before travel. If suspicion of infection arises, passenger data will be registered and telephone contact made every 24 hours.

Kershenobich noted that the risk of spread in Mexico is very low and there are no suspected cases in the country. Authorities will follow OMS updates on the outbreak that has caused more than 220 suspected deaths in Congo.

The announcement comes ahead of the Congolese national team match in Guadalajara on June 23, as part of preparations for the 2026 World Cup.
